DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: AUGUST 23 BELIEVERS AND DAILY BEHAVIOUR SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 12: 1 – 2; EPHESIANS 2: 10
The ways believers in God and Jesus Christ behave outwardly in the world is very significant. Our Almighty Father, His Son Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit as well as the people of the world look forward to see specific behaviours of us calling ourselves believers (Christians). The ways we behave towards God Himself and His Son Jesus Christ, our behaviours towards ourselves, towards unbelievers, towards fellow Christians even towards constituted authorities are being watched and assessed daily in heaven. Apostle Paul devoted Romans 12 to 15 (four chapters) to how believers should behave themselves in this world. There are so many others all through the New Testament. This devotional traces those mentioned in the book of Romans with few references to other passages.
The entire Bible contains man behaviours towards God, people, constituted authorities as well as how man should handle himself amongst fellow human beings. The name “Christian” came to be, not necessarily by the messages of the gospel, but by the outwards admirable conducts of the Apostles and Disciples of Christ in Antioch. Biblical preaching, teaching and the church doctrine must be behaved appropriately and genuinely by all believers. Every organization, association and group has decorum and ethics to be followed and behaved by members. Christianity definitely has its own.
Church doctrine and teachings have, over the years, talked about reading the Bible daily, going to pray in secret places, having daily devotion and quiet time with God as believers’ behaviours. Others include being with the Holy Spirit daily, going out to witness Christ to people and keeping away from unbelievers who might corrupt the believers’ characters as wonderful daily behaviours expected of believers. However, this series will dwell on relational behaviours which make Christians different in good characters and approved as God’s children. Subsequent discussions will unveil details. The Bible says believers are God’s workmanship created in Christ for good works (Eph. 2: 10). Any behaviour of any believer that does not align with good works in accordance with God’s specifications puts the believers out of being a believer of God.
PRAYER:
Blessed Holy Spirit, there are numerous challenges standing before me daily. Teach me daily how to behave to please God every day in Jesus name.
