DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: FEBRUARY 21 WILLINGLY IGNORANCE (1) SCRIPTURE: JOB 21: 14 – 15; ZECHARAIAH 7: 11 – 12

The topic of this devotional picked on a legal term use for an “act of intentional and blatant avoidance, disregard or disagreement with facts…” It is deliberately refusing to admit what is known by behaving ignorant of the truth. This devotional is examining the ways people of this world deliberately refuse to admit the Word of God as well as agreeing that God is Almighty Father over every body as Christians believe. Right from the inception of Christianity, there are groups of people deliberately rejecting things believed by Christians. It never meant that they do not know that those things are true. They simply reject admitting the truth. This is what “Willingly Ignorance” portrays. It is used for “Willful Ignorance” also. In Job’s replying to Eliphaz, one of his three friends alleging that Job’s afflictions was results of sin at a point said: “Yet they say to God, leave us alone! We have no desire to know your ways. Who is the Almighty that we should serve Him? What would we gain by praying to Him?” (Job 21: 14-15 NIV).

It may bother many Christians why the Words of Truth preached and taught by them have been so rejected out rightly as we witness every day. Willingly, many have vowed never to agree with Christians’ view about God. Prophet Zechariah profiled these people saying: “But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and stopped their ears. They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Almighty had sent by His Spirit through the earlier Prophets… (Zechariah 7: 11 – 12 NIV). This is exactly what many people in the world have been doing and are still doing.

There are basic statements of facts in the Bible that God created human beings, animals and birds, sea creations, grasses and flowers, sun, moon and stars etc. We are seeing these things as evidences beyond doubts. Yet some scientists, geographers and atheists keep rejecting and refusing facts about God, bringing out their theories to discredit the facts. Against the Biblical proofs on Jesus Christ as a Son of God and with His numerous miracles, signs and wonders and exceptional teachings on His personality and God; many still deliberately reject Him as Son of God and Saviour of human beings. These are “Willingly Ignorance” postures make the world maintained resistance against God and Jesus Christ. As much as their stand might have been seem to be correct, the Bible says that those who hears and believe are those who will be saved: “And you will hear the truth, and the truth will save you” as seen in John 8: 32.

PRAYER:

Pray, asking God to enlighten your understanding never to derail from the truth about God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Ask God to reveal the inner truth of the scriptures to you on daily basis in Jesus name.
