The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the completion of Enugu-Onitsha Expressway project, innovatively implemented through Cement Technology.
The all important Igbo body observed that for over twenty-four years the road was abandoned, stating that it was plagued by a reputation for fatal accidents, debilitating gridlock, and substantial economic detriment, whch has now undergone a remarkable transformation under the stewardship of President Tinubu.
According to a press statement issued on Thursday and signed by the duo of Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro Deputy President and Chief Chinyeze Ohia, National Spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, recalled how unconcerned previous administrations under former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and the late Muhammadu Buhari were on the plight of the Igbos who applied that road.
The statement reads in part, “The urgent calls for the repair and reconstruction of this vital route, which had rendered travel across our region increasingly hazardous, were disregarded despite their explicit electoral commitments. This systematic dismissal of the needs of Ndigbo is a striking testament to the long-standing challenges we have faced”, it stated.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, however, disclosed that the people of the Southeast are extremely happy and overwhelmed with joy to hear the re-opening of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by March 31, 2026, adding that President Bola Tinubu has changed the narratives of Ndigbo, adding that Ndigbo will vote massively for him in 2027.
The statement added, “President Tinubu is not merely rewriting the narrative of the Igbo; he is fostering an infrastructural revolution within the Southeast. The newly revitalized dual carriageway, stretching 107 kilometers on each side, stands as a legacy project that possesses the potential to irrevocably alter the political landscape, significantly influencing voting patterns that may favor President Tinubu in the 2027 elections”, they said.
In the midst of the accolades, the pan Igbo socio-cultural organization furthermore appealed to the President Bola Tinubu and the Work Minster, David Nweze Umahi to allocate funds for the construction of more roads in the Southeast.
It said, “We urge him to allocate additional funds for the expedited completion of all ongoing Federal Road Projects in the Southeast. Key priorities must include the MARKUDI-NSUKKA-NIGHTMILE-ENUGU EXPRESSWAY and the CALABAR-ABAKILIKI-BENUE-ABUJA SUPER HIGHWAY.
“Ndigbo are in dire need of enhanced road infrastructure development under President Tinubu’s leadership, a necessity that far outweighs any political overtures from opposition coalitions”, they said.
