The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen has condemned the deadly attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the killings as “gruesome and heinous” while urging immediate and decisive action to halt the cycle of violence.
The position of the Speaker was contained in a press statement issued on March 31, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, who conveyed Abbas’s reaction to the tragic incident.
Scores of residents were reportedly killed, many others injured, and properties destroyed in the attack, which has once again highlighted growing security concerns in Plateau State.
Reacting to the development, Abbas stressed that “Nigeria cannot leave its citizens at the mercy of criminals and non-state actors,” calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to take firm and coordinated steps to restore order and prevent further bloodshed.
He noted that the killings should serve as a moment of sober reflection for all stakeholders, urging a unified and strategic response to rising insecurity across the country.
The Speaker further emphasised that safeguarding lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, calling for stronger collaboration between federal and state authorities, improved inter-agency coordination, and deeper engagement between the government and citizens.
Abbas also extended his condolences to the families of victims, as well as to the Angwan Rukuba community and the government and people of Plateau State.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the attack.
