Beneficiary of Governor Alia’s Free Eye Care Testifies to Restored Vision
A grateful beneficiary of Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (Ph.D.)’s free community eye care services has shared his transformative experience. Mr. James Brown, a Cross River State indigene residing in Ukwonyo, Utonkon, underwent successful eye surgery at the University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital Otukpo (UHSOTH) after being diagnosed at Ukwonyo Primary Healthcare center.
Mr. Brown’s journey to restored vision began with a clinical diagnosis by doctors from Vision Savers Eye Care Services, partners in the free community eye care initiative. He received a referral for surgery and subsequently underwent the procedure, regaining his sight.
Expressing his profound gratitude, Mr. Brown visited the Ado Local Government Chairman, Engr. Sunny Oche, accompanied by Supervisory Councilor for Agriculture, Quivina Uloko, to personally thank Governor Alia for this life-changing intervention. Engr. Oche, deeply moved by Mr. Brown’s testimony and restored vision, highlighted the success of the program and encouraged more residents to take advantage of this type of opportunities.
The free eye care services, launched across Benue State’s 23 local government areas from November 23-26, 2024, provided comprehensive care including eyeglasses and surgical referrals. Ado Local Government extended services beyond the initial timeframe to ensure maximum reach, showcasing a commitment to the wellbeing of its citizens by Engr. Sunny Oche.
