Police Intensify Patrols to Prevent Cult Clash in Awka

The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up security measures in Awka and surrounding areas following credible intelligence about a possible cult rivalry clash.

Police Operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS), Enugwu-Ukwu, according to press release e-signed by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga have been deployed on intensified patrols and surveillance to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

In addition to visible security operations, the Command has also activated non-kinetic strategies in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Anti-Cultism, as well as the State Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV). These efforts are aimed at ensuring a coordinated approach to tackling cultism and its related crimes.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, reassured residents of the Command’s readiness to respond swiftly to any threat to public safety. He urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against involvement in cult activities.
CP Orutugu also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or gatherings to the Police for immediate action.
