The battle for the soul of Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election took a decisive turn as Senator Solomon Olamikan stepped forward with the full weight of party establishment backing, declaring his readiness to sustain and expand the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dominance in the state.
Speaking in Abuja shortly after picking his nomination form, the visibly confident aspirant framed his emergence as a consensus candidate as both a divine mandate and a product of strategic political alignment within the party hierarchy.
“I am the first aspirant that will be submitting his nomination form… I stand here today not by myself but by the grace of God and the entire leadership of our great party in Ogun State,” Olamikan said.
He acknowledged the decisive roles played by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and APC stalwart Olusegun Osoba in his emergence, describing them as pillars of the consensus arrangement that has reshaped the political landscape in the state.
“I want to thank Mr. President for the role he played… and my leader, Governor Dapo Abiodun… as well as Chief Olusegun Osoba and all leaders across the divide,” he stated.
Projecting continuity rather than disruption, Olamikan signaled that his administration, if elected, would deepen ongoing reforms and accelerate development across critical sectors.
“Our state is already on an upward trajectory. What I will do is consolidate on the gains of this administration, especially in economic development and infrastructure, and take Ogun State to the next level,” he said.
On the intrigue surrounding his consensus candidacy, the senator downplayed political scheming, attributing his selection to personal discipline and party loyalty.
“There is no secret. Just be focused, be committed, be dedicated… and at the right time, decisions like this come,” he noted.
Insisting that his emergence reflects unity within the APC, Olamikan pledged to work with all factions and stakeholders to maintain cohesion ahead of what is expected to be a high-stakes electoral contest.
With his endorsement by key power brokers and early consolidation of party structures, political watchers say his candidacy could significantly shape the dynamics of the 2027 race, as Ogun APC moves to retain control in what is fast becoming a strategic political stronghold.
