Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has come all out to dare members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who recently abandoned the ruling party in Ebonyi State, prior to the party primaries, to seek their political fortune in opposition political parties.
The Governor, who stated this at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat while fielding questions from journalists, recalled the activities of the defectors in 2023 against the APC.
He said he was happy seeing people joining opposition political parties in order to test their popularity, even as he added that prior to the primaries, wide and apprioprate consultations were made.
He said, “As you can see that everybody is happy. We did a very noble consultations with our stakeholders. We had so many stakeholders meeting. Issues were sorted out.
“And what we are going to do today is elect the candidates that will fly the flag of our party. And I believe that, especially with support, we will elect a very competent candidate.
Nwifuru however debunked there was parallel primaries in Ebonyi State, that there was no need for it.
“We have only one Congress committee. If people are contesting elections, what is normal is people coming out to the field to test their popularity. And it is allowed in democracy. So there is no need of parallel Congress and nobody is going to conduct parallel Congress.
While expressing his feeling concerning those who had left the party based on their interests, Nwifuru, further quried their support to the pary in 2023.
He remarked, “Well, you know, this is party. People came to join the party with interests. The question would have been, what did these people do in 2023? And what is the evidence of their support? Whether they support you or whether they do not support you in 2023.
“And I am happy that people are willing and ready to even join another party to test their popularity. So it is not difficult for me. It is not something that I can say. But it is democracy. It is allowed. And that is what it should be”, he stated.
