The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered heightened security deployments across Nigeria ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, directing police commanders nationwide to intensify proactive policing and surveillance operations to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.

The police boss also extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across the country as they commenced the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir festivities, praying for peace, unity, and prosperity for Nigeria.

The directive was contained in a press release issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, on May 27, 2026.

According to the statement, Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory have been instructed to strengthen security measures during the festive period.

“In line with the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring peaceful and hitch-free celebrations nationwide, the Inspector-General has directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across all State Commands and the Federal Capital Territory to strengthen security deployments and enhance proactive policing measures throughout the festive period,” the statement read.

The Force said operational measures already put in place include strategic deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces.

Police also announced intensified visibility policing, coordinated patrols, stop-and-search operations, surveillance duties, and intelligence-led crime prevention strategies aimed at protecting lives and property during the celebrations.

The IGP urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities capable of threatening public safety.

“The Nigeria Police Force places the highest premium on public vigilance. Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” the statement added.

Members of the public were advised to immediately report suspicious persons, unattended bags, unusual gatherings, surveillance activities around public facilities, and any movement considered unusual.

“Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy,” the police warned.

The Force also released dedicated emergency contact lines for the public to report emergencies and security concerns during the festive period.

IGP Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to public safety and national security while wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyous, and safe Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
