Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, Abba Moro, has congratulated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olaka Nwogu, on his decisive victory in the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election, describing the outcome as a testament to the growing acceptance of the PDP among Nigerians.

The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Senate Minority Leader and signed by Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, Media Adviser to Senator Moro, on June 23, 2026.

According to the statement, Senator Moro, speaking on behalf of the minority caucus of the Senate, praised Nwogu for securing what he described as a landslide victory in the poll conducted on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Nwogu winner of the Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election after polling 47,961 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 1,647 votes.

Reacting to the result, Moro attributed the victory to what he described as the increasing popularity of the PDP and the political influence of the party’s national leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

“Ngwogu’s victory is a reflection of the growing acceptability of the PDP and the doggedness of the National Leader of the party and Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike,” the statement quoted Moro as saying.

The Senate Minority Leader further stated that Wike’s leadership was helping to reposition the PDP and restore the party’s electoral fortunes across the country.

According to him, “Wike’s leadership of the PDP is returning the party to its winning ways,” while assuring of his continued commitment to strengthening the party at all levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Moro also extended his congratulations to the senator-elect and welcomed him to the National Assembly, pledging support to ensure a smooth transition into legislative duties.

“He congratulates Nwogu and heartily welcomes him to the Senate. He promises to provide the necessary guidance and support for him to have a smooth stay in the Senate,” the statement added.

The victory further strengthens the PDP’s presence in the Senate and is expected to boost the party’s confidence as political stakeholders begin positioning ahead of future electoral contests.
