NAUS Honours Sunny Oche for Grassroots Development, Student Support

The National Association of Ufia Students (NAUS) has honoured the Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Engr. Sunny Oche, with an Award of Excellence for his leadership, student-friendly initiatives and contributions to grassroots development.

The award according to a statement e-signed by Innocent Igelle, Principal Private Secretary to the Executive Chairman said the recognition followed the administration’s interventions in education, youth development, security and grassroots governance and was delivered by the National President of NAUS, Comrade Ugbudu Isaac Udonu, during a courtesy visit to the Chairman at his country home in Ikpomolokpo.

Udonu commended Oche for supporting students through scholarship interventions, promoting youth participation and maintaining accessibility to members of the community.

The NAUS President also highlighted the Chairman’s involvement in security matters, including preventive security operations, describing it as evidence of his commitment to protecting residents. He said the assessment of the student body showed that Oche’s performance qualified him for recognition as the best-performing Local Government Chairman in Benue State, while congratulating him on his emergence as Treasurer of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State Chapter.

Receiving the award, Oche expressed appreciation to the NAUS leadership and recalled his experience as a student unionist at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. He urged the students to remain united, respectful and responsible while pursuing their education, stressing the need for discipline, consistent study and excellence in their chosen fields. “The award is an encouragement to continue serving the people and not a reason to become complacent,” he said.

The Chairman assured the students that his administration would continue to support initiatives that promote education, youth development and the wellbeing of residents, while building on its achievements in the local government. The presentation, attended by students from various tertiary institutions, ended with mutual appreciation between the NAUS delegation and the Chairman, underscoring the importance of constructive engagement between student organisations and grassroots leadership.
