The GLOBAL DAIRY CONGRESS AFRICA , described as the only global dairy platform to accelerate dairy investment , trade and modernization in Africa commences two (2) days 4TH GLOBAL DAIRY CONGRESS AFRICA 2019 at Chelsea Hotel ,Abuja, Nigeria, July 4th-5th 2019. The congress through the good will message promised to be a melting point of ideas as well birth strategic action plans in furtherance of a healthy and lucrative dairy subsector of the economy of Africa countries. Dr. Bright Wategiri, Director, department of animal husbandry services, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development in a welcome address while expressing honour and pleasure to welcome delegates and participants to the important occasion of the 4th Global Dairy Congress in Africa says the theme of the congress “ Accelerating the Investment and Cooperation of Dairy in Africa” is apt adding that the congress couldn’t have held at s more auspicious time than now that Nigeria is having a renewed focus on Agriculture not only for food security but also as a major driver of Nigeria economy. Dr. bright further noted that Nigeria livestock account for one third of the nation agricultural GDP, providing food , employment , farm energy, manure and transport. The dairy industry is a dynamic industry with an ever-increasing demand for milk and milk products however dominated by pastoralists who are gradually moving away from subsistence level of production to embracing entrepreneurial ideas with emphasis on economic consideration. The government of Nigeria due to enormous opportunities for growth is operating an umbrella Agricultural Promotion Policy (Green Alternative) with focus on agribusiness and medium term economic revitalization strategies called Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) to further enhance the ease of doing business and we also at the implementation stage of our livestock transformation plan that allow space for local and international investors in the Nigeria Dairy Industry, Dr. bright added. On enviable agricultural resources, she said an estimated 20 million cattle, about 100 million hectares of land , tremendous water resources , a sizable workforce and agro-climatic diversity to grow grains, pastures and raise livestock are all available in Nigeria hence urges stakeholders, participants and investors to please discuss dairy business here, seal dairy investment deal here and establish dairy farms and dairy processing plant here in Nigeria. Dr. Mohammed Bello Umar , Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development who declared the congress opened; in his opening speech extends the greeting of Mr. President and the good people of Nigeria adding that the epoch making event presents an opportunity for yet another round of multi-stakeholders’ interactive sessions to explore business opportunity, discuss critical issues targeted at resolving the multi-faceted problems of the Dairy sub-sector noting that the challenges on the Nigeria dairy sector borders on infrastructure development, processing, dairy husbandry, quality control, product development , industry and sectoral cooperation. The perm. Sec. noted that the theme for the 4th Global Dairy Congress in Africa “ Accelerating the Investment and Cooperation of Dairy in Africa” aligns with the aspiration and agenda of the government of Nigeria to improve the dairy sub-sector to a level where it will be a global player in the supply of wholesome dairy products for increased employment generation, foreign exchange earnings and means of livelihood for the people. The congress features presentation of papers on series of topics by resource persons and sessions of panel with technical section to chart a way forward in the dairy subsectors.
