DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: FEBRUARY 24 DANGER OF WILLINGLY IGNORANCE (2) SCRIPTURE: PSALMS 106: 13 – 15; ISAIAH 5: 24
As seen in yesterday’s devotional, it is understood that God does not take it lightly with those who reject Him as their God. He usually visits those who reject Him and His authority with different ugly circumstances. On a general note, we heard how God pours His wrath upon people or nation who refused Him with sicknesses, diseases, calamities of various kinds. In today’s devotional, three more things God does to those who reject Him as God over them as well as His Words will be mentioned. Since rejecting God is followed by God’s wrath, is like anyone who rejects Him asks for His punishment. So, the first of the three things is, God giving those who reject Him what they ask for but follows it up with punishment. In the wilderness, Israelites did not wait for God’s counsel but lusted exceedingly after the patterns of Egypt. The Bible said God sent “leanness into their soul.” The “leanness” here physically stands for emaciation but spiritually it connotes far more devastating.
Second thing God does to those who willingly reject Him is visiting them with “unnecessarily suffering. Giving what Prophet Isaiah said, it will be accurate to conclude that the constant wildfire ragging nations these days are as the result of the world rejecting God. The Prophets wrote:- “Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root will be as rottenness and their blossom will ascend like dust; because they have rejected the law of the Lord of host…” (Isaiah 5: 24). This portrays that those who reject the word of God will suffer unnecessarily.
The third thing God does to those who refused Him being their Father is that He will leave them to their own devices. When an individual or nation rejects the Lord’s Sovereignty He leads such to a desolate ending. Those who neither believe in God nor trust in Him do things without faith in Him. The Bible says those who do not have faith in God “…are empty, lacking and ultimately left to their own devices” (Psalms 81: 12). It is read in Deuteronomy 32: 18 – 20 how God said He will hide His face from the Israelites who have forgotten that He fathered them. God said here that He spurned them, that is rejected them with disdain or contempt, because of the provocation of His son and His daughters. This is a serious matter! Brethren, may we not reject God by pretending we are told things about His existence.
