DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: APRIL 9 GODLINESS VERSUS TODAY CHRISTIANITY (2) Scripture: Luke 10: 38 – 42

Spread the love

The first series of this devotional tended to reveal to readers that Christianity these days looks like operating without godliness. There cannot be seen, the glorified characters of Jesus Christ as in godliness in the lives of many Christians of today. Therefore, one is forced to believe that there could be Christianity without godliness. Today’s devotional will dwell on things some Christians do outside godliness against the godliness of our older fathers of faith in the Old Testament. Godliness talk about here varies a little from being pious, practicing righteousness and holiness. It is about relationship with God as a Father, doing all His Words say. One writer in Fountain of Life Ministry’s magazine says “Godliness is an active and increasing intimate relationship with God.” This is what seems lacking in Christianity today.

Today’s Christianity is more on lips services with the hearts far away from God. A look at what some of Christians do will arouse skeptical question if they know God, talk less of fearing Him. In today’s Christianity, we hardly carry God along in our hearts while doing things. Some of us Christians of today do not refer our decision making to God. We so trust our own wisdom, knowledge, intellect, skill and strength etc. that we hardly inquire from God if what is going to be done will be accepted by Him. *King David was such a wonderful godly King. He asked God always before going to war with his enemies. He asked God if he should pursue his enemies who came taking everyone captive, from the city of Garths. King David would ask God for the war strategy to adopt to win his enemies (2 Sam. 5: 23; 1 Chro. 14: 14). This is the type of godliness that is lacking today.

The lead text today will be telling us the wrong ways to be godly. Many Christians today are like Martha. Martha focused on ‘busy-ness’ of working in the kitchen for the Lord, but forgot the most important thing which is sitting at the feet of Jesus listening to the Words and His teachings. Christians must know that sitting and having quality time with God is as far benefiting than spending every time doing what is thought to be best for God. Christian leaders occupy their members with programmes, meetings, crusades, running seminars and the like. This has made many workers in churches working tools but empty of God’s relationships with them. There is no way God can talk to us when busying about without creating time to have close relationships with Him. Some Christians too, no longer attend Bible study classes anymore, with a believe of having known the Bible enough!

Today’s devotional looks at godliness as involving simple communion with God and Jesus Christ as well as with the Holy Spirit. God will be closer to us and readily revealing things to us if we can make every moment of our times communing with Him. In our hearts, we should be able to make our celebrations and time of adoring Him a form of communion with Him. Reason many Christians turn Christianity into an external jamboree of daily activities is because, they listen to God through their own hearts instead of the instructions of the Holy Spirit on what to do, when to do it and how to do it. God has many valuable information to give the world concerning solutions for the pestilences and insecurities going on globally. He is, however, looking for who will meet Him in close proximity, in intimate and friendly conversations. This comes easily through godliness of sitting at His feet to receive instructions. Let us get intimately closer to God in our hearts!!

PRAYERS:

1. Father God, thank you for this revelation today. I am sorry for being too busy doing what I think is best for you. Please, show me the best ways to do your works in Jesus name.
2. Lord Jesus, my ears are all waiting for your rebuke as you rebuked Martha who was busy all the time being in the kitchen to prepare food for your Disciples and you. Tell me today, how best to do your wills.

POSITIVE CONFESSION:

I am in the wills of God for making me know the truth today. I am today set free from spirit of self, doing the works of God my own ways. Hallelujah!!!
