In a bid to address the infrastructure deficit caused by insurgency in the North East, the management and staff of the North East Development Commission, (NEDC), have been asked to collaborate with the leadership of the National Assembly and other government agencies, to source more funds for rebuilding the subregion.

The call was made by the Chairman of the House Committee on the North East Development Commission, (NEDC), Usman Zannah, during their inspection visit to some of the ongoing projects in Bauchi State, North East Nigeria.

The Committee on NEDC, led by its Chairman, Usman Zannah, alongside the management and staff of the North East Development Commission, have been going round Bauchi State to inspect some of the ongoing projects awarded by the Commission.

Among the projects inspected are the construction of three major collapsed bridges along the Bauchi – Gombe Highway, as well as the 53 km Kirfi to Gombe Abba Road, where the committee’s chairman, said it is part of their legislative oversight functions, which will enable them to have first-hand information about the projects awarded by the commission.

Usman Zannah said they are optimistic about the way the projects are going, and called on the construction firms to ensure their speedy completion.

He debunked the insinuation that NEDC is concentrating its projects only in Borno State.

Most of the projects visited have reached over eighty percent completion.

The Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, promised to hand over the projects to the state government in no distant time.

The project when completed,  would assist in addressing the poor road networks in the state.
