THE NECESSITY AND IMPORTANCE OF SECTION 14(2)(b) OF THE 1999 CFRN AND ELEMENTS THAT ENCOURAGES ITS IMPLEMENTATION
The 1999 CFRN has indeed set clear ways for the effective discharge of the functions of State to the citizens. That whatever any government must do,it is imperative that the government of a state must as a priority ensure the provision of wealth and security for the state. This by extension, refers to the citizens. But unfortunately, this provision is only like a fashionable phrase as not much of it is seen to be practically put into use.
This section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 CFRN states:
” the security and wealth of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”.
This signifies that, whatever must be the step of the any government, wealth and security must be first. However, this is not much practicalised as most policies of governments are first put into practice before giving due consideration to this cardinal provision. In most cases this constitutional law usually comes last and that’s why Nigeria governments are always in difficult situations.Instead of ensuring safety gears are put first in compliance to the provisions of section 14(2)(b) of 1999 CFRN so as to avoid situations Nigeria is in today.
In the light of this, here goes some practical approach towards the realization of this powerful provisions for the benefit of humanity:
i-Reduction of
ostentatious life
style by the leaders.
ii-Empowering
corruption bodies
to work effectively.
iii-Ensuring provision
of general welfare
of the citizens.
iv-Discourage
importation and
encourage
exportation.
v-Amend some
laws
like plea
bargain,recall of
Members and
others.
In actual fact,if this constitutional provision is well adhered to and the state goes by its laters of spirit, growth and rapid development can be achieved in no distant time.
May we be guided.
