TAX REFORM BILL: step it down, I don’t trust Taiwo Oyedele smooth talk on Tinubu tax bill
A critical mind in the media space has raised observation and concerns over the smooth talk on the Tax Reform Bill yesterday on Channel TV Town Hall.
The media entrepreneur, Tonye Barcanista raises the observation and concern in his verified X handle.
“I watched Taiwo Oyedele smooth talk and smile his way at Channels TV Town Hall on Tax Reform to the cheers of the audience, but I don’t trust him or the government.
“I recall how Emefiele and Fowler made ridiculous promises when the government was promoting VAT increment from 5% to 7.5% – which the same Oyedele (who now propose 10% VAT) kicked agaisnt. Yemi Cardoso and Wale Edu were the chief promoters of government of petrol subsidy removal and floating of the Naira by the President Bola Tinubu that have put Nigerians in ruins, all their sweet talks have become the proverbial “lamba”. How do the government expect the citizens to still trust them?
“In view of the above, I join the call for the bill to be stepped down to allow Nigerians properly looked at it, critique it and decide whether or not to accept it serves the interests of the common man. Nigeria belongs to all and not just the privileged few in and around government.”
Recall, this bill has generated a lot of controversies especially from the northern governors forum and other prominent northern politicians and scholars.
While the bill is considered a o be an equating reform in the nation’s tax regime, other seemed it as a reform that ill-targeted the northerners.
In all of this, Nigerians need to be properly enlightened on the bill, Pan Afric Reporters appeal to the proponent of the bill.
