DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: JANUARY 9 BRINGING BACK INTEGRITY (2) SCRIPTURE: PSALM 26: 1, 11
As read last week, integrity was portrayed as chief character. A rich man but crooked in his ways that has no integrity means nothing to a society. But a poor man with integrity gives joy, peace and confidence to the society he lives in. This devotional intends to give elaborate definitions of integrity in more detailed form. The word “integrity” has multiple definitions that pinning it to one single definition will not make one understand fully what it really means. Oxford Dictionary sees Integrity as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. Webster Dictionary adds completeness, last wholeness, sincerity and unimpaired condition to it.Again, Study.com added more seeing Integrity, apart from having strong moral principles, being uncompromising and adhering to moral principles. Wikipedia extended meaning of integrity to be inner wholeness, deriving from qualities which include honesty and consistency of character. This source says “genuine integrity is measured on doing what one says, putting into actions that match fittingly with what we profess to believe in.”
It is pathetic that almost every person met will claim a person of integrity. But there are obvious evidences that the world is suffering from windingly integrity. It behooves the mind seeing many people saying one thing but doing another thing differently; negating what real integrity is all about. It can be deduced from Psa. 26: 1, 11 that King David found self among people walking outside integrity. Reason he said “Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity. I have trusted also in the Lord, therefore, I will not waver…But as for me I shall walk in my integrity…” Like King David, this is what people ought to vow to be by standing alone in integrity.
Should integrity be put in its proper place, the world would have been the most lovingly place to live in. One W. Clement Stone says this “Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right things because it is right. These are the magic keys to living life with integrity.”
It is unfortunate that the world is busying pursuing intelligence and affluence leaving integrity behind. Removing integrity from whatever we possess will kill us and the society, the government we run with and any organization we head. In everything we find ourselves doing, it is important to remember that integrity must be involved. This is why one Warren Buffet said and quoted here: “In looking for people to hire, you look for three qualities: integrity, intelligence, and energy. And if they don’t have the first, the other two will kill you”. End of quote. This quote positioned integrity on the pinnacle of character needed to make things workable in the world.
PRAYER:
Pray that God make you what He knows that is integrity and grant integrity unstained with human kind of integrity in the name of Jesus Christ.
