DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: MARCH 7 GOD’S RICHES IN MERCY AND LOVE (1) Scripture: Ephesians 2: 4 – 7; Deut. 30: 15, 19
There has never been a period in this world that God’s mercy upon the world was not displayed. The entire Bible is about the overwhelming manifestations of God’s mercy and Love. The world has ever been on rebellious posture against God. There has never been a time people on earth fully and generally see God as Almighty Father, who must be obeyed totally. Either by design or ignorance, many people never believed that God created them and own their lives. With all these, God keeps saving mankind and allowed the world to exist. This devotional touches areas God is merciful to mankind and tries to prove that every mercy shown to the world by God emanates from His Love.
God created mankind to live and have continuous intimate relationship with Him. He created Mankind to live in righteousness and holiness with Him. He however, gave mankind permissive will to do what is good and what is bad on choice. He made this a choice for all of us whether to live or to die (Deut. 30: 15, 19). I believe His permissive will was given because of His love for us. It has been so long, when mankind chose disobedience, idolatries, outright wickedness, disloyalty, worshipping of gods made with hands etc. These have stained the world so badly that wiping out every human race could be a justified action by God. Yet, He keeps on pouring His mercy upon mankind. The more we offend God, the more He extends His mercy and Love to us. By mercy, He has not deemed it fit to destroy us completely. “His mercy endureth forever” so said the Bible. This means His mercy is inexhaustible or lasts till eternity.
The word “mercy” in this lead passage is from a Greek word ‘eleos’ and it means compassion, pity, clemency. Other version uses “grace” for mercy. Compassion stands for “a deep sympathy for the sorrows of others or an ability to imagine oneself in the condition of another.” God does just that. _The word “pity” means the same. It is feeling sorrowful for the suffering of another person. The word “clemency” can be simply described as “an act of deed of leniency.” God as a merciful Father is disposed to forgive our sins for so long a time. That God is “rich in mercy and Love means there are abundant deposits of mercy and love with Him.
This devotional comes to encourage us and assures us that in spite of fearful evil things going on in the world, God can still show us His Mercy and Love. He showed us Mercy and Love by sending His Begotten Son to die for our sins. This act was on love: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoso believed in Him shall not perish but has eternal life (John 3: 16). God sees our plights, the hunger, the sicknesses and diseases and the inexplicable wickedness of fellow human beings, killing the innocent people. He who is full of Mercy will soon bring us deliverance. The only thing we must know is God will not drop His Mercy and Love on us after He has given us His Son Jesus Christ for our ransom. We must first show remorse for our sins, confess them to Him and beg Him to show us His mercy and love. We have to sincerely repent and turn away from all works of unrighteousness.
PRAYERS
1. Oh LORD, we have all gone astray from your presence and abandoned your Orderliness. Show us your mercy, in Jesus name.
2. Our Father and our God, renew your Love again in our days in the name of Jesus Christ.
3. Jehovah God of Mercy and Love, cause the desperately wicked ones in this world to have a repentant heart in Jesus name.
POSITIVE CONFESSION:
I will not give up holding on to God until I see His Salvation.
