Government College Utonkon Felicitates with Ado Local Government Chairman, Engr. Sunny Oche

The management and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of Government College Utonkon (GCU) paid a congratulatory visit to the elected Chairman of Ado Local Government, Engr. Sunny Oche, at his country home on Sunday, March 9, 2025. The delegation, led by Principal Mr. Batholomew George Ebi, expressed their delight at Engr. Oche’s election on October 5, 2024, commending Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (PhD) for overseeing a transparent electoral process.

Principal Ebi lauded Engr. Oche’s emergence, describing him as the “choicest of all contestants.” He pledged the school’s unwavering loyalty and support to the Chairman as he embarks on his leadership role. The Principal highlighted GCU’s rich history, tracing its origins as Government Teachers’ College in 1974 and its renaming to Government College Utonkon in 1995 under the leadership of Late Prof. Jerry Agada.

The visit, attended by Comrade Ebia Joseph (PTA Chairman), Abdulrahaman (Chief Security Officer), Owoicho Benjamin (Vice Principal Admin), and Adejo Ambrose Ochoga (Vice Principal Academic), culminated in the presentation of a plaque to Engr. Oche as a token of goodwill. GCU expressed its hope to benefit from the Chairman’s administration, given the institution’s need for government intervention.

Engr. Oche  according to report by his Principal Private Secretary, Innocent Igelle expressed his gratitude for the visit and the plaque, which he described as a “symbol of appreciation and reward for good work, which is a call for more works.” He acknowledged the overdue attention to schools in Ado Local Government but affirmed education’s high priority on his agenda. He invited the school management to formally present their needs and promised an on-site inspection of the school’s facilities. The visit concluded with a convivial atmosphere of fellowship and shared refreshments.
