Senator Olajide Ipinsagba’s Developmental Strides: an highlight of Ondo North transformative constituency  project

A recent interview with  senator Olajide Ipinsagba the senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District in an interview with National New Media Forum outlined his  accomplishments since his resumption of office, 18 months ago, highlighting various constituency intervention projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of constituents.

Senator Ipinsagba recounts that within the first three months of assuming office, he implemented three significant constituency projects in his  senatorial district, which includes the construction of a cottage hospital in Akuku, a 1.5-kilometer road in Okoko South West, and 28 lock-up stores.

These constituency intervention projects have had a tangible impact on the community, with residents now able to access better healthcare facilities and transportation infrastructure, economic empowerment among others.

In addition to these infrastructure projects, the senator has also focused on empowerment initiatives, providing training and resources to help constituents acquire new skills set with a start-up package. This includes programs for women, such as sewing and hairdressing training, as well as vocational training for youths.

The senator emphasized his commitment to teaching people “how to catch fish rather than giving them fish,” highlighting the importance of empowering individuals to take control of their own lives.

Looking ahead, the senator outlined plans for future projects, including the establishment of a University of Information and Communication Technology in Ikare Okoko, as well as a mega-empowerment program aimed at providing machines and resources to needy individuals.

When asked about the motivation behind these initiatives, senator  Olajide Ipinsagba credited President Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the President for providing enabling environment, which he said  has provided senators with the necessary support to execute their projects.

The senator also acknowledged the importance of addressing the needs of women and youths, particularly in light of recent celebrations marking International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day. He emphasized that their efforts to empower these groups would continue, with new projects and initiatives in the pipeline.

Overall, the senator’s achievements and future plans demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of his constituents and promoting sustainable development in their district.

 

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS OF SENATOR OLAJIDE IPINSAGBA:

1. Empowering Farmers and Promoting Agricultural Advancement: Facilitated Agricultural Training Programs for youths and existing farmers, equipping them with modern techniques to enhance productivity.

Distributed fertilizers to farmers to address critical agricultural challenges, ensuring increased output and improved local food security.

 

2. Advancing Health and Well-being: Constructed and fully equipped a modern health centre in Akunnu-Akoko, ensuring access to quality healthcare for the community.

Distributed health equipments and materials to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, thereby strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving health outcomes.

3. Skill Development and Empowerment Initiatives:

Women and Youth Training in Confectioneries: Conducted training in cake baking and other confectioneries, followed by the disbursement of start-up grants to empower beneficiaries to establish their businesses. Training of women on soap making with start-up funds.

ICT Training and Equipment Distribution: Organized ICT training programs for youths, distributed HP Core i7 laptops, and provided start-up grants to promote innovation and employment in the tech sector.

Vocational Training in Tailoring: Trained youths in tailoring, provided sewing machines, and disbursed start-up grants to enhance self-reliance and job creation.

 

4. Community Development and Infrastructure: Constructed a 1.5-kilometer road in Oka-Akoko, improving connectivity, facilitating economic activities, and easing transportation for farmers and traders.

Spearheaded the construction of the Ikare Modern Civic Center, which serves as a hub for cultural, social, and civic engagements.

Facilitated the construction of 28 lock-up shops in Oka -Akoko, providing a conducive environment for entrepreneurs and boosting local commerce.

 

5. Promoting Education and Opportunities:

Distributed free JAMB forms to students across the senatorial district, enabling many young people to pursue higher education without financial barriers.

Sponsored a bill for the establishment of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) University in Ikare-Akoko. A public hearing was successfully held on December 28, 2024, reflecting progress toward establishing this vital institution for skill development and education.

6. Facilitation of Recruitment Opportunities: Facilitating and securing federal jobs for constituents in NNPC, Police, Nigerian Army, Rural Electrification Agency and also working to get appointments for the youths in the ongoing Customs and Airforce recruitment.

 

7. Scholarships and bursaries to over 1000 tertiary students.

 

8. Lighting up towns and villages with Solar Panels including Adekunle Ajasin University.

 

A VISIONARY APPROACH TO LEADERSHIP These achievements underscore his commitment to fostering development in agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure. As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Procurement, he also prioritizes accountability and efficiency in national projects, which directly impacts the equitable allocation of resources to Ondo North Senatorial District and Ondo State at large.

ADDITIONAL POINTS OF IMPACT: Empowering Small Businesses: Through the skill acquisition programs and provision of lock-up shops, he has laid the groundwork for entrepreneurship to flourish within the district.
