Engr. Sunny Oche, Chairman of Ado Local Government, has strongly condemned a brutal attack by Fulani invaders on Mrs. Atoji (Nee Aka Igelle) and another woman near Ajode farm settlement earlier today. The attackers, using the victim’s own machete, inflicted injuries on Mrs. Atoji, the wife of a late retired Police officer, Mr. John Atoji.

This incident marks a recurrence of violent attacks targeting women in the Ajode and Okonoji settlements, who are particularly vulnerable due to their daily tasks of collecting firewood and water. There has been a report of a recent incident where a Fulani man forcibly took a child from his mother, collected mangoes from the child before returning him to his mother, highlighting the attackers’ disregard for children’s life.

Previous attempts to curb the violence, including the deployment of a special security force to Ukwonyo, have proven insufficient. While a brief period of calm followed the force’s deployment, they were disengaged. Today’s attack demonstrates the need for a more sustained and effective response.

Engr. Oche expressed his deep concern and commiserated with Mrs. Atoji. He pledged to collaborate with community leaders to develop a lasting solution to the problem and ensure the safety of residents. “The Ajode Forest and other farm settlements must be secured so farmers can return to their land without fear,” he stated. He expressed hope that building upon previous security efforts will yield a more decisive outcome in deterring further attacks. Principal Private Secretary to the Chairman Innocent Igelle reports
