CDS Pledges Stronger Ties with Ministry of Regional Development, Champions Peace Through Partnership

In a strategic collaborative effort to bolster national unity and promote civil-military cooperation, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, today paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of State for Regional Development, His Excellency Alhaji Maigari Uba Ahmadu, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit, described by the Minister as “historic,” centered on fostering mutual understanding and enhancing collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and regional development institutions.
General Musa underscored the intrinsic link between security and development, stating, “Communities with more development often enjoy more peace.” He reaffirmed the AFN’s commitment to supporting regional initiatives spearheaded by the Ministry, noting that meaningful development is a critical pillar for sustainable peace across the nation.
Acknowledging the Ministry’s vital role in enhancing military capabilities, General Musa expressed appreciation for its support in training the AFN Special Forces. He emphasized that such partnerships significantly improve national security outcomes and build resilience within vulnerable communities.
The CDS according to a press release e-signed by the Director Defence Information, TUKUR GUSAU Brigadier General assured continued cooperation from Defence Headquarters, pledging to back the Ministry’s efforts in fulfilling its constitutional mandate and delivering impactful regional programs.
In his response, Minister Maigari Uba Ahmadu lauded the Armed Forces for their sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty. He commended the military’s progressive initiatives, especially its educational programs for the children of repentant insurgents, describing them as “powerful tools for reconciliation and reintegration.”
The Minister expressed confidence in the AFN’s ability to navigate and neutralize the nation’s evolving security challenges. He reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to work hand in hand with the military to promote peace, unity, and regional development.
The visit marks a renewed commitment between Nigeria’s defence and development institutions to build a secure and prosperous nation through sustained collaboration and shared responsibility.
