Oriri Named Youth Ambassador of the Year at 10th African Icon Awards Gala

In a night of glitz, inspiration, and celebration of African excellence, Peter Oriri, Publisher of Naija Voice Media, was honored with the coveted Youth Ambassador of the Year award at the 10th Anniversary Gala of the African Icon Awards, held at the prestigious Colonnade Hall of Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

The landmark event, themed “The True African Leader: The Power of African Youth in Leadership,” marked a decade of honoring transformative leaders making impact across the continent. This year’s edition focused on the growing influence of young Africans in leadership, innovation, and social change.

Ambassador Abraham Lawal, Project Director of the African Icon Awards, highlighted the anniversary as a moment to reflect on the legacy of the initiative while spotlighting emerging change-makers. “This ceremony is not just a celebration of achievement; it’s a rallying call to continue building a new Africa led by purpose-driven youth,” he stated.

Peter Oriri’s award was presented by Dr. Abadariki Annie Oziohu, CEO of Jonnie Estate Surveyors & Developers, who lauded Oriri for his resilience, professionalism, and dedication to the media industry. She described him as “a beacon of excellence and a true role model for Nigerian youth.”

In addition to his work in journalism, Oriri serves as Special Adviser on Publicity & Communications to Senator Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East Senatorial District and Chair, Senate Committee on Federal Character & Inter-Governmental Affairs). His leadership has significantly influenced media and public engagement strategies, while his mentorship efforts have helped cultivate young talents across Nigeria.

In his acceptance speech, Oriri expressed deep gratitude to God, the African Icon Awards team, and his supporters. “This recognition is for every young Nigerian dreaming of a better future. I dedicate it to my family, the Naija Voice Media team, and most importantly, my wife and children for their unwavering support,” he said.

The evening also celebrated a host of other distinguished Africans, including Alex Nwankwo as Most Supportive Media Brand,Omowumi Ogunrotimi as Icon Woman of the Year,Engr. Dominic Onuh Akuboh as Icon Man of the Year, Barr. Jane Danladi and Imeze Cynthia Iwugo, among others recognized for their outstanding contributions to society.

Highlights of the gala included a grand dinner, impactful keynote speeches, and vibrant networking sessions bringing together leaders in governance, entrepreneurship, media, health, education, and humanitarian service.

Barrister Omowumi Ogunrotimi, founder of the Gender Mobile Initiative, delivered a powerful keynote address on gender justice and youth leadership, particularly in Africa’s rural communities.

Founded in 2015, the African Icon Awards has grown into a premier platform for honoring excellence across the continent. This 10th anniversary edition reaffirmed its commitment to recognizing both high-profile and grassroots achievers who are driving positive change and shaping Africa’s future.
