DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: AUGUST 27 THE BELIEVER AND UNBELIEVERS (2) SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 12: 19- 21; EPHESSIANS 4: 31 -32
Yesterday’s devotional informed us that unbelievers might cruelly treat believers with hate, persecute believers and pose as enemies to the believers. Yet, believers by works of goodness should not curse them but bless them. The basic teaching about believers’ behaviour towards unbelievers is that, the believers are light and salt of the unbelievers, as such; the believers are to behave in anyway godly and differently good to the unbelievers. We will see few more points about how believers should behave themselves amongst the unbelievers. Believers are not to take revenge on unbelievers. Believers are not to return evil for evil done to them by the unbelievers. Believer has to feed an unbeliever who hurts him or her when the unbeliever goes hungry. When an unbeliever is thirsty and he/she approaches a believer, he or she should be given the drink with love.
As a matter of fact, the most tasking area to show real Christianity is in behaving well towards unbelievers. Some will not even value the good gesture. However, believers are to endeavor to behave themselves good and well around unbelievers. Most unbelievers hardly know peace within them, therefore, giving someone peace seems difficult to them. This could be the reason Apostle Paul admonished the Roman Christians to live at peace with them as far as possible (Rom. 12: 18). In as much as possible, all believers in God are to make sure they conquer every unbeliever’s evil treatment with good. The Bible says here: “don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good” (Rom. 12: 21 Africa Study Bible). Jesus Christ on this told His disciples to “…love your enemies, do good to those who hate you” (Luke 6: 27).
One more important thing here; believers ought to know that, it is more rewarding to do good to unbelievers as this reflects one of the great attributes of God. God does not send rain upon those believing in Him only. He sends rain to the just and the unjust. Here the just represent the believers while the unjust represents the unbelievers. God is ever compassionate, kind and patient with all mankind. The believers in God are to strive always to get into the very minds of the unbelievers and diverse ways they can be converted. This can be achievable through having good relationship with them. Having good relationship with unbelievers enable the believers understand the unbelievers by the persons they are, their lots and conditions in life, their status and positions and their needs and feelings. This will make every believer behaves good towards any unbeliever.
PRAYER:
BLESSED HOLY SPIRIT, fill my mind and brain with wisdom to discern the inner persons of the unbelievers, their problems and challenges, to behave godly and goodly towards them, in Jesus name.
POSITIVE CONFESSION:
Lord, I am sorry to have been judging unbelievers through the eyes of my personal perspectives. Help me out of spiritual prejudice!
