As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has called on Nigerians to remain united and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in its drive toward national prosperity.
In a goodwill message to citizens, Senator Barau reminded Nigerians of the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and stressed the need for unity, peace, and tolerance. “Fellow Nigerians, happy Independence Day. As we celebrate the 65th Independence Anniversary of our beloved country, we must remember the enormous sacrifices made by our founding fathers: Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, among others, and recommit ourselves to the ideals they stood for, including the promotion of national unity, peace, justice, and tolerance,” he said.
The lawmaker, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament according to a press release e-signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,Ismail Mudashir expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges. “Yes, at 65, we have some challenges facing us as a country, but we will overcome them. Our country, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will emerge stronger from its present challenges, by God’s grace,” he added.
Senator Barau noted that President Tinubu’s reforms are already yielding positive outcomes. “The benefits of President Tinubu’s economic reforms are beginning to manifest, and security has improved considerably over the last two years. Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to actualise his policies and programmes as encapsulated in the Renewed Hope Agenda. He has good intentions for the country. We will get it right,” he assured.
He further pledged that the National Assembly would continue to support the executive with legislation that promotes good governance and national development.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Wednesday, October 1st, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration.

65th Independence Anniversary: Senator Barau felicitates Nigerians, urges unity, support for President Tinubu
As the nation celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has urged Nigerians to remain united and see beyond the current challenges facing the country, saying that what is uppermost now is for all to accord President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the needed support as he propels the nation to prosperity.
The Federal Government had declared Wednesday, October 1st, as a public holiday in commemoration of the country’s 65th Independence Day celebration.
Senator Barau, in his message to Nigerians on the occasion, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, appealed to the citizens to remain resolute in promoting national unity, offering support and prayers for the government to succeed in its efforts to turn the country’s fortunes around positively.
According to him, the benefits of President Tinubu’s economic reforms are beginning to manifest, and security has improved considerably over the last two years.
