DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 7 THE SELF CONSCIOUSNESS OF JESUS (2) SCRIPTURE: John 8: 12; 11: 25 – 30

Spread the love

Yesterday’s devotional gave us how Jesus Christ used what He knew Himself of to respond to things before Him. We heard that as Christians, we should respond to our inner feelings of ourselves just like Jesus did. We are, in today’s devotional, going to see more of how Jesus responded to issues from the much self-consciousness of Himself. Many thought Jesus’ WORDS as mere sophistry of self-acclaimed Philosopher. But Jesus knew Himself as one having the “the living water”, that is His life satisfying words, for all. He asked all who are thirsty to come to Him and drink of this water (John 11: 28 – 30). Many of us don’t know we have what can brighten the world we live in. We most often, through negative self-consciousness view selves as not belonging to those who can influence their societies for good. But not Jesus Christ. He boldly and confidently told His hearers: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8: 12).

Some of us feel incompetent to confront severe cases such as death. When it comes to such incredible challenge we see ourselves in the image of mere human beings. Jesus, in Bethel, stood at the tomb of Lazarus who was dead and buried four days ago. He stood amongst doubting Thomases and Lazarus’ sisters, who had given up on Jesus for not coming at the period of Lazarus sickness. But Jesus knew Himself. He authoritatively declared His being the resurrection and life saying: “I am the resurrection and life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe in this?” (John 11: 25-26). The worst thing every person hates to be reminded of is when such will die. Many discovered with terminal sicknesses quickly go into hopelessness and resigned from doing anything good forthwith. One of the core assignments given Jesus by God is His dying for the sinners. All the days of Jesus’ works on earth, He knew the very day and time for His temporal dead on earth. Meaning He kept working with the consciousness of His death. When the time came too close He said: “We are going to Jerusalem…and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn Him to death…” (Mark 10: 33, 34).

The beloved in Christ, we cannot exhaust how much of Jesus’ self-consciousness of Himself in devotional such as this. They are too numerous. We are given these as examples for us Christians to follow our leader, facing incompetence of man with Divine knowledge, full of Jesus’ competence. As believers of Christ, we must build our weaknesses and incompetence on Him. Every load of negative self-consciousness has to be offloaded on Him. He invited us to doing that in Matthew 11: 28. Apostle Peter asked us to do so in 1 Peter 5: 7.

PRAYER:

JEHOVAH GOD, give me a new mind and heart today to take away my consciousness from my incompetence to taking my worries and sorrows to your Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

POSITIVE DECLARATION:

I declare my ability to do all things in Christ Jesus, who strengthens me always. Hallelujah!
