DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 16 DANGER OF SPIRITUAL DECLINATION SCRIPTURE: PSALM 13: 3; EXODUS 33: 15; 2 KINGS 6: 12

Our devotional discussion for the past two days has concentrated on spiritual declination though not really defined. It is all about going slacking in our spiritual lives. It is all about going down in our spiritual content and dropping away from zealousness for God and things of God. There are so many evidences of such behaviour. In this round of devotional, attention will be drawn to the danger of spiritual declination. This is talking of what bad things that can happen, to individual Christian should he or she declined spiritually. There can be many dangerous things happening to a person who or a church which has declined spiritually.

One that comes readily to mind is spiritual death. When we declined in spirit or sleep within our spirit realms, we incurred spirit of death, king David referred to this as “sleep of death.” He asked God to give his eye, light, which can mean revival, if not he will sleep the sleep of death (Psa. 13: 3). The moment we decline in our faith realm the journey of spiritual death begins. A spiritually dead Christian is a slave to Satan and demons. They do to him or her whatever they like without resistance. Anyone with dead spirit never again hears the language of the Holy Spirit. Of course dead ears cannot hear.

Spiritually declined man does not have God’s guardianship. Spiritual declination makes the declined person or the church living without God’s Holy Spirit guardian. In other word, when one declined spiritually, God stops going with that person. Once we are separated from moving with God anything can happen to us. Moses knew the implication of this when he told God “If you will not go with us, we will go nowhere” (Exod. 33: 15). Any nation without God’s presence is a dead nation. The nations or people who God is not with have no command of respect by other nations. This is because things happening in those nations or around those people are dishonesties. It is very sad that many churches and nations no longer have God behind them. The terrorism, killing of human beings, insecurity and whatever heinous evil going on in the world can disappear if we wake up in our spirit and carry God’s presence about.

Spiritual declination results to spiritual blindness. An individual who declined in the spirit realm will not be awaken to spiritual revelations. This talks of spiritual blindness. The more one is spiritually at alert, the more such sees deeper in the spirit realm. Churches and nations need people whose ears, minds and sights are fully opened to the knowledge and teaching of the Holy Spirit. The world must have one who the Spirit of the Lord should come upon to reveal secrets of holy living and discovering for social and economic sustainability. Prophet Elijah was always at alert in the Spirit of God to the extent that God revealed to him every secret discussions of the King of Syria concerning the King of Israel (2 Kings 6: 12). The beloved, we can therefore, do all things to be revived from spiritual declination seen around the world of today. Everybody needs this spiritual revival.

PRAYER:

FATHER, we cannot pretend any more, lots and lots of us have slept off spiritually. Reawaken our spiritual consciousness in our lives once more in the name of Jesus Christ
