DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 20 ARE YOU CONSCIOUS OF WHAT COMES NEXT? (1) SCRIPTURE: ECCLESIASTES 3: 1 – 8; JOB 14: 1
One day, precisely in the afternoon of 18th October, 2021; as I was reminiscing on Nigeria, many names of powerful historical empires in Nigeria kept coming into my minds. I am talking of the like of Benin Empire, Oyo Empire, Sokoto Empire, Borno Empire etc. then a single question of “where have they all gone” came into my minds. These historical empires at a time were so powerful, formidable and so fortified without knowing that a time of their extinction will come. Like these empires, individuals have emerged who the world so feared of them. Today, where are they? All over the world presently, we have world leaders and powerful politicians who had single handedly ruled without the fear of God. Many have died; those alive are either bedridden or restricted to wheel chairs. Today’s devotional is investigating into the minds of many self-believed most powerful, influential or terrible but cared not of what God’s time holds for them.
It is so amazing how human beings seem to be behaving without the consciousness of what comes next in their life time. Some religious leaders fall into this group too. To us Christians, the Bible warns severally of how good to be conscious of our days or years ahead. The first lead passage above tells us there are time for everything in life. Hear the beginning “There is appointed time and season for all things.” (Eccl. 3: 1). Question here is “Do these human beings in positions and powers know that God’s time for them to die or be riddled with ailments will surely come?” Every one of us must one day come face to face with the reality of our ugly time. Stories were being published of some great men and women who died and those to bury them deserted them due to their animalistic behaviours. This devotional feels that if one is conscious of what comes next, such a person will behave homely, humanly and godly while in power.
Perusing into the lives of some of our present leaders worldwide will reveal how inhuman some of them are. They seem not to fear God in anything. These leaders obviously had proud themselves as “most wicked leaders.” They form association of the “most wicked leaders” and groom their children on same nature; believing the children will take over from them. The rate of wickedness in this age, the rate of how some leaders across political and religious divides are forming synergies of wickedness to be in power for ever is alarming. Hope everybody knows what Job knew when he said that: – “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble” (Job 14: 1). Take it that these few days to live are full of troubles. The beloved, how do you know the nature of trouble that is coming upon you soon? It is better for all of us to do the only thing the Bible asks us, which is not to be tied of doing good works (Gal. 6: 9). This passage has a phrase “…at the proper time…” We must know that God has a “proper time” for every action we take in life. This includes a proper time for proper punishment and proper time for proper rewards.
PRAYERS:
1. JEHOVAH ALL KNOWING, open my eyes to see what comes next in my life time and equip me with the right behaviour to avert judgment in Jesus name.
2. LORD JESUS, kindly assign the Holy Spirit of God on our political and religious leaders to redirect them from evil influences so as to earn righteous rewards.
