DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: OCTOBER 31 LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OUT OF IT (4) SCRIPTURE: ISAIAH 40: 29; PSALM 37: 24
This last part on this topic “Life is What You Make Out of It” picks on an Africa-American lady who entered the league of millionaires at age 32 years. She was the richest Africa-American in the 20th Century. Her net worth was about $2.8 billion as at February, 2018. The devotional is talking of Oprah Winfrey. Oprah Winfrey did not hit the lifeline of billionaires by divine fortune. She fought her ways into greatness, debunking the discouraging words of self-pity. Oprah Winfrey was born in the rural area of Mississippi on January 29, 1954. It looks like she did not know her real biological father, because she was born of a teenage girl. History has it that Oprah Winfrey referred to a Barber as her father, with a name Vernon Winfrey. Winfrey grew through chains of physical and emotional hardships. She was raped at age 9 through age 13 which made her ran from home. By 14th year, she became pregnant.
Against all odds, Oprah Winfrey danced in the storm of life dreaming positive dreams. She probably trained herself into high school only, but courageously approached a radio house for employment. She got employed at age 19 years as “Co-Anchoring Local Evening Talk Show” while still in the high school. *Within a space of time Oprah Winfrey showed marked proof of exceptional “Talk-Show Moderator. She boosted a local third-rated Chicago radio to first-class. She would soon become a Media Proprietor known as “Oprah Winfrey Show”. Her Talk Show is said to be the highest-rated Television programme of its kind. This Talk Show was nationally syndicated from 1986 to 2011 in Chicago, Illinois. Oprah Winfrey seems to have God behind her. God who gives power to the weak, and strength to the powerless, and who makes those who trust in Him never to fall even though they stumble (Isa. 40: 29; Psa. 37: 24).
Who would have believed a girl with such a checked historical record like this, could enhance winning votes for an American President? Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Barack Obama from 2006 to 2011 got 1 million votes in the 2006 Democratic Primary race and led to Obama’s winning the election. No wonder Obama gave her Presidential Media Freedom Award during his reign. This devotional feels Oprah Winfrey might have read autobiography of Helen Keller. Oprah Winfrey most likely believes in the life philosophy of Helen Keller who said: “Self-pity is our worst enemy and if we yield to it, we can never do anything good in the world.” The beloved, how have you been responding to pitiful state of life? Are you always down on self-pity or you work out how you want to live? You can see through the people used as illustrations for these discussions that life is really what one makes out it. It is your turn to turn a new but best leaf in your life. SHALLOM!!!
PRAYER:
ALMIGHTY FATHER, grant me strength and courage to always dance in my storms of life dreaming positive dreams in the name of Jesus Christ.
POSITIVE CONFESSION:
I refuse to see myself in the light of self-pity. All I know is that I am a special Creator of God. Hallelujah!
