DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: NOVEMBER 22 DANGER OF MORAL WEAKNESS (1) SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 6: 19 – 23

Spread the love

By observation, people do not care for certain action taken by someone seems not with any social statues; but if same action is taken by a very important public figure; the news spreads like wild fire. For instance, if a nation’s president is caught raping a woman the world will say it is an abomination. But if an insane person does the same thing the law will take it a minor case. The same urge that caused the president to rape a woman is the same urge that caused the mad man raped a woman. But to the president such action is moral degradation. The society will judge the president for moral weakness. Moral weakness seems to be generically endemic. Today’s devotional is discussing dangers of being dominated by moral weakness.

Weakness under discussion here is the aspect of our character or nature where we easily fall or where we easily give in to sin. Weakness can be said to mean flaw. We have types of weaknesses as “academic weaknesses which are related to academic works. Professional weakness is recorded when a professional fail to put into use his or her profession effectively. The Weakness that is common to all flesh is what this devotional will be talking of. This weakness is found with man or woman, saved or unsaved, Christians or unbelievers, rich or poor, young or old, clergy or laity, etc. In simplest term, this weakness is moral weaknesses. These are areas by which we easily manifest actions not expected of us. The lead text here referred to it as “weakness of your nature” (Rom. 6: 19).

We can conclude it is moral weakness when a leader fails to control his temper and slapped his aide in public. It is moral weakness for a very senior citizen is seen insulting somebody on the street. It is tantamount to moral weakness if a head of State is caught in a hotel with a married woman. This devotional is building her discussion on moral weakness from Christian ethical doctrine. Let us use two persons in the Old Testament to illustrate what this devotional is talking as “moral weakness.”

In the Old Testament, Moses was known as a great leader and most credited with high degree of humility. He led in humility all through. Yet, he had problem with anger management. Anger was his moral weakness. Anger was responsible for his killing an Egyptian. Same anger robbed him of getting into the Promised Land. Because of anger he struck the rock twice instead of speaking to the rock as seen in (Numbers 20: 9-12). The Bible contains great achievements of King David as powerful warrior, gifted musicians and songs composer as well as a great poet. The Bible described him as man after God’s heart. Sadly, King David’s moral weakness was inability to control his sexual urge. He committed adultery with Bathsheba (2 Sam. 11: 1 – 5). He exhibited this moral weakness with Abigail the wife of Nabal. Their marriage was too dramatic. Tomorrow’s series will expound on more areas of moral weaknesses.

PRAYER:

HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, I open my heart to you today to show me the habits I exhibit that have given me away for moral weaknesses. Strengthen me to maximally overcome my moral weaknesses in Jesus name. Amen.
