DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: DECEMBER 4 GIVING GOD SACRIFICE OF PRAISE (2) SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 13: 15 – 16
As seen in yesterday’s devotional, we are dealing with sacrifice of praise based on the praise that is given to God from our whole body, soul and spirit. It is a total offering of ourselves to God inside out void of lip services. We were told yesterday that quantitative and qualitative praise cost us exhaustions physically, according to one Amy Dunham._. The nature of the “sacrifice of praise” to be given to God in this devotion will be drawn from Hebrews 13: 15 – 16. The first thing to know here is our Sacrifice of Praise” has to be through Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself is a Sacrifice God offered to Himself on our behalf so to attain salvation. While extolling God, talking about His goodness to people, singing and praising Him, all our hearts, minds, spirit and focus are to be channeled through Jesus Christ.
Apostle Paul said our praise has to be continually in order to be a sacrifice of praise. We as Christians are not to be giving God sacrifice of praise occasionally but in a continual flow every day and all through our life time. King David said of himself in Psalm 34: 1 that he “will praise the LORD at all times.” God has been sacrificially giving us all things every second of our lives, we must therefore, occupy our hearts and minds with grateful attitudes towards God, in expressions, talking, and singing without thinking of what to get from God in return. We are to be giving God verbal thanksgiving acknowledging His good deeds in our lives. King David here again assured himself by saying “I will constantly speak His praise” (Psalm 34: 2). Failure to acknowledge God’s good deeds in our lives and refusing to tell others in thankful manner what He has done for us is sign of ingratitude. As faithful Christians, we should be able to live in constant life of expressing thankfulness to God.
Another way Apostle Paul admonished Christians to offer God sacrifice of praise is by doing good to others “…and do not neglect to do good” (Heb. 13: 16). When we are loving others by doing good to them our demonstration of love shows we are living the life as a sacrifice of praise to God. One of the best ways to appreciate God’s goodness to us and showing we are grateful to Him is doing good to people with that which God has given us. One other things we should know here is that when we do good to people as Christians, we make the people to give thanks and praise to God who brought us on their ways. The beloved in Christ, we must admit here that giving praise to God is not an easy task but we have to do it sacrificially, because according to one Debbie McDaniel a lot of things stare us on our faces calling our attentions. But we must set aside those challenging moments and praise God.
PRAYER:
LORD JESUS CHRIST, you lived on earth a sacrificial living through good works of healing and delivering people. Grant onto me a burden to live life of offering God sacrifice of praise at all times. Amen
