DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: DECEMBER 5 GIVING GOD SACRIFICE OF PRAISE (3) SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 13: 15; PSALMS 100: 4
In our devotional yesterday, while discussing on this topic, we were told that the greatest show of ingratitude to God is refusing to acknowledge His goodness in our lives as well as telling others His goodness in our lives. Mere stating or telling people how good God is to us is a perfect rendering unto Him sacrifice of praise. We were told too that offering God praise is sacrifice, especially when the praise we are giving rests upon struggling and painstaking effort to tell God how good He is to us. Giving praise to God becomes more of a sacrifice when it is given out of our difficult moments in life. A very sincere child of God will agree with this devotional that giving God praise is labourious in all angles. But it is a must to praise God. The life of one who knows how to give God sacrifice of praise is always an amazing life. Those known for giving God quality and quantity praise always experience wonderful grace from God. King David is our model here.
The Book of Psalm is full of King David’s principles of praising God. He suffered series of persecutions, rejections, life threatening and royal hates from King Saul. In all his schools of predicaments, King David got reasons to thank God, praise Him as well as telling the world how good is God. Today’s devotional decided to bring out few things King David said about giving God praise. David vowed to “Bless the Lord at all times and make sure God’s praise is continually in his mouth (Psa. 34: 1 KJV). Against all the persecutions flowing from King Saul toward David, King David would say “And my tongue shall speak of your righteousness and of your praise all the day long” (Psa. 35:28). Others saw King Saul as a threat on David, yet David saw God’s righteousness in the threats. All along that King David was passing through life threatening plots from King Saul, David was seeing all his mysterious escapes from King Saul as God’s mighty deeds. He asked his people to “Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to His excellent greatness” (Psa. 95: 2-3).
Many of us specialize in going to God with loads of what God “must” do for us every day. People are seen getting disgruntled with God when what they expected from Him never come handy. But King David asked his people to always “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise, and bless His name” (Psa. 100: 4). Very many of us find it difficult to see God’s love around us when we seem passing through difficult moments. But not King David! He saw God’s love always. Reason he said “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands” (Psa. 63: 3-4). The easiest ways to turn from God is when we allowed our soul to become dissatisfy with God. When this came upon David, he told his soul “Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all His benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy” (Psa. 103: 2-4). The way King David knew how to give God sacrifice of praise is enough for God’s heart to be after King David. We Christians can enjoy this gesture from God if we consistently give Him Sacrifice of Praise. Shalom!
PRAYER:
Make my heart and lips instruments of praising you sacrificially O LORD in the name of Jesus Christ. I offer everything in me to you today as ingredients of praise!
