DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: FEBRUARY 20 DANGER OF NOT BEING TRUTHFUL (2) Scripture: Proverbs 12: 19; Zechariah 8: 16 – 17
Yesterday’s devotional, using a quote from George Owell, told us that speaking truth is a revolutionary act. This means speaking word of truth brings about revolution (positive change) to a society where falsehood has taken hold on the society. In Zephaniah 3: 13, it will be deduced that only speaking words of truth can make a nation live without fears. God told the remnant of Israel not to be involved in iniquity or speaking lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth. And, in Proverbs 12: 19, the Bible says that “The truthful lip shall be established for ever…” (NKJV). Africa Study Bible puts it this way: “Truthful words stand the test of time…”. This means anyone or nation that should stand the test of time has to embrace speaking truthful words to everyone.
Standing on the above words, it will not be wrong to opine that refusing to speak words of truth had caused lots of problems to the world. Many government leaders suppress truth; many religious leaders trample upon truth. Many of the traditional leaders lead by falsehood. How then will there be peace and meaningful developments for the best use of the citizens? A government that gives employment to children and relatives of those in leadership telling people “there is no vacancy” is not truthful. Government personnel who take over government owned properties or, business set ups and sold to herself is not being truthful. Government that can arrest, arraign and jail those who spoke truth about things happening. Leaders in religious organizations as well as the traditional are to allow truth be heard and spoken.
It is actually dangerous for any nation leading people with deception as well as deliberately poised to killing anything truthful. It is so sad to see leadership of deception in many parts of the world today. By ruling the world with deception God will never bless us as best as it should. God, in the Bible, when set to remember the people of Jerusalem and Judah in order to bless them; told them to first speak truth to one another and give judgment of truth, justice and peace to the people at the gates (Zechariah 8: 16). The devotional warns that all mankind must deal away with falsehood and embrace living in truth. With this, real divine blessings will come upon the people of the world.
PRAYER:
Almighty Father, rain Spirit of truth upon everybody in the world that will dominate people’s hearts and minds. Let every lip of mankind finds it difficult to tell lies in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!!!
