DUFUHS Vice Chancellor Urges Host Community To Embrace University’s Intervention Programmes

The Vice Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University Health Sciences (DUFUHS) has called on the University host Community, Uburu, especially parents to take advantage to the institution’s community free extra mural programme by encouraging their children to participate.
Professor Uneke, made the appeal during the 5th matriculation ceremony/open day for the 2025/2026 session during which one thousand forty-four students were matriculated.
According to him, the University has commenced free Extramural Programme for the host Community and environs to prepare students for WAEC/NECO and JAMB examinations.
He further disclosed that courses taught are English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. He added that the programmes are absolutely free of charge and it is part of the community development initiative.
In order the facilitate the programme,Uneke stated that, tables and chairs, solar power systems fans, teaching materials have been provided by the University, adding that lecturers from DUFUHS are the teachers.
The Vice Chancellor had earlier expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the boost his administration has brought to the educational sector through the Renewed Hope programme of the Federal Government.
He stated that the University has benefited tremendously from from the educational reform of the Federal Government, adding that through the federal government enormous infrastructural development has taken place in the University through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Professor Jesse Uneke also reiterated that the violation of the University’s rules and regulations remains unforgiving.
He hinted that between last matriculation and this one, the University senate had approved disciplinary actions against twenty-nine (29) students.
According to the Vice Chancellor, just as the university do not spare any student that violates the university regulation, it also do not spare any lecturer that violates the university’s condition of service, even as he called on the students to take their studies very seriously.
He said, “Between the last matriculation and the present, the senate of the university approved disciplinary actions on a total of 29 students depending on the magnitude of their offence and of these, three students were expelled due to examination misconduct and stealing.
“Ten students received one year suspension for smoking of illicit drugs, obscene and libellous publication, cyber bullying and stealing. Fourteen students received between one month to one semester suspension for bullying, assault and stealing. One student was withdrawn as a result of poor academic performance and one student received warning letter for misdemeanour”, he stated.
