Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have intensified security operations across the Jos metropolis, arresting two suspects and recovering weapons as part of efforts to curb escalating tensions and restore calm in Plateau State.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on April 4, 2026, by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE.

According to the statement, the troops launched a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise across key areas in Jos, including Jos North and Jos South, targeting flashpoints such as Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-cost Housing Estate.

“The heightened security presence yielded immediate results as troops successfully intercepted and arrested two suspects as well as recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle along with four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one pump action with a cutlass,” the statement said.

In a related development, troops were said to have responded swiftly to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam, forcing the attackers to flee.

“Upon arrival of the troops, the unidentified gunmen were forced to retreat into the surrounding bushes under superior tactical pressure,” it added.

The statement further revealed that two residents who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were rescued and taken to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

“During a subsequent sweep of the immediate vicinity, troops discovered two local residents who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment,” the task force noted.

Reaffirming its resolve, the command stressed that it would sustain the current momentum until normalcy is fully restored across affected communities in Plateau State.

“The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to maintaining a dominant security presence throughout Plateau State. The operations will continue with increased vigour until the threat of violence is completely neutralized and lasting peace is firmly re-established,” the statement said.
