APC Only Party Capable of Securing Nigeria’s Future, Says Yilwatda Amid Opposition Crisis

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yolwatda, has declared that the ruling party remains Nigeria’s most viable platform for stability, governance, and national renewal, warning against what he described as the growing instability within opposition ranks.
The position was contained in a press statement issued by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy to the APC National Chairman.
Speaking in Abuja on the state of the nation and party politics, Yilwatda said the APC has demonstrated the institutional strength and national spread required to manage Nigeria’s complex political and socio-economic realities.
“The All Progressives Congress is not an ad hoc coalition held together by convenience. It is a tested and enduring political machine, built on structure, spread, experience and the capacity to respond to the real needs of Nigerians,” he said.
He added that the party is not merely preparing for elections but actively working to deepen governance and strengthen democratic institutions.
“We are the only party with the institutional strength and national reach to carry the weight of both the present and the future of this country,” Yilwatda stated.
The APC chairman, however, took a swipe at opposition parties, describing their internal crises as evidence of unpreparedness for leadership.
“A party that cannot govern itself cannot govern Nigeria. If a political platform is constantly trapped in self-inflicted crisis… it simply has no business asking Nigerians for the mandate to lead this country,” he said.
He argued that persistent factional disputes and legal battles within opposition parties reflect deeper structural weaknesses that could undermine national stability if entrusted with power.
On governance, Yilwatda reaffirmed the APC’s support for the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the government is undertaking difficult but necessary reforms.
“The task before this administration is not cosmetic. It is a serious nation-building responsibility that requires courage, patience and political steadiness,” he said.
Addressing security, the APC chairman described the ongoing trial of over 500 terrorism suspects as a significant step toward strengthening the rule of law.
“What we are seeing is movement beyond arrests toward institutional accountability. It shows that the Tinubu administration is not only fighting insecurity on the battlefield, but also in the courtroom,” he noted.
Yilwatda stressed that sustainable security must combine military action with judicial processes and institutional reforms.
Turning to party affairs, he highlighted Osun State as a critical battleground ahead of future elections, urging party members to adopt a disciplined and data-driven campaign approach.
“Osun is not just another state election. It is a test of strength, a battle of perception, and an important rehearsal ground for 2027,” he said.
He warned against internal divisions, calling for unity and a clear command structure within the party’s campaign framework.
“Every successful political operation requires one clear command structure. There must be no ambiguity in authority,” Yilwatda added.
The APC chairman also emphasised that the party prefers to win elections through popular support rather than legal technicalities.
“Victory is sweeter when it is earned. It is more legitimate when it is freely given by the people,” he said.
Analysts say the remarks reflect the APC’s strategy to project confidence ahead of future electoral contests while contrasting its internal cohesion with the perceived instability within opposition parties, as Nigeria’s political landscape gradually shapes up toward the next election cycle.
