In a strong push to deepen operational efficiency and leadership capacity within Nigeria’s policing architecture, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed his commitment to continuous training and improved welfare for officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP made this known on April 22, 2026, at the closing ceremony of the Squadron Commanders’ Training Programme held at the Police Mobile Force Training College in Nasarawa State, where he emphasized the importance of tactical preparedness in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

According to a press statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force and signed by Anthony Okon Placid, the training programme forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening leadership, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the Force.

During the visit, the IGP inspected key training facilities, including the simulation ground and shooting range, where he actively participated in tactical drills—an act seen as reinforcing leadership by example.

Addressing cadets of the Nigeria Police Academy undergoing training at the College, Disu charged them to remain focused and disciplined, stressing that professionalism and adherence to human rights principles must guide their conduct.

“The quality of your training will define your effectiveness and conduct in the field. You must remain committed, resilient, and disciplined,” the IGP stated.

He also commended the Squadron Commanders for successfully completing the intensive training, urging them to apply the knowledge gained to enhance leadership and operational discipline in their respective units.

“You must translate this training into improved tactical efficiency and leadership capacity within your formations,” he added.

Reiterating the strategic role of the Police Mobile Force as the tactical arm of the Force, the IGP stressed the need for it to remain disciplined, responsive, and reliable in tackling security threats.

He further assured officers of continued efforts to improve welfare and provide the necessary tools and equipment required for effective policing across the country.

“We remain committed to strengthening operational capacity and ensuring that our officers are well-equipped to respond to emerging security challenges nationwide,” Disu affirmed.

The training programme is part of broader institutional reforms aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Police Force for greater professionalism, accountability, and service delivery.
