DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONALS: MAY 26 THE SPIRIT OF MIGHT ON JESUS (1) SCRIPTURE: MARK 3: 20 – 21; 9: 28 – 36
No doubt, the discussions on the Spirit of Counsel on Jesus proved useful to our readers by responses on social media. We are beginning another discussion on the Spirit of Might on our Lord Jesus Christ today. The word “might” is described literally as ‘power’, ‘bodily strength’ or ‘energy’. The Spirit of might gives power, strength and energy to those he rests upon. Anyone whom the Spirit of might is upon does things supernaturally. This is because the Spirit of might flows from spiritual strengthening. We see that in the stories of Samson. He killed 1000 Philistine soldiers with a mere jaw bone; he removed a defensive iron gate and carried it away on his shoulder. The Spirit of Might on Jesus gave Him a specific power known as a secluded power somebody alone is never known for.
During Jesus’ ministering on earth, He went about doing His Father’s works with “a secluded power” no human being had been known for. Jesus worked on the earth with extraordinary power (might) because of the Spirit of might upon Him. The obvious ways Jesus manifested the Spirit of might is areas of working signs and wonders. One Keith Lannon and another Pastor from Netherland referred to Jesus’ might as “The Anointing of Mastery.”* In exhibition of wisdom, understanding and counseling, Jesus performed mightier than any servant of God ever existed.
Jesus showed His Might in many other areas while on the earth. He set up record of fasting and praying for 40 days and 40 nights before embarking on His ministerial works. Jesus was quoted teaching and preaching for days, nonstop; that He neither went out to ease Himself nor going out to eat. He was taken to become insane for doing this (Mark 3: 20-21). In prayers, Jesus showed His might. He wakes up every day at 3.00AM, gets to secluded areas to pray till dawn. He had prayed till His body changed to Angelic body. The power of this prayer pulled down Prophets Moses and Elijah to appear before Him (see the story in Matt. 17: 1-8 and Mark 9: 28-36). Christians can access this Spirit of Might in order to operate on supernatural might like Jesus. This is true because Jesus expects us to do greater works of what He did while alive. Yes, we can do greater works through the Spirit of Might.
PRAYER:
OH LORD, let the Spirit of Might, given to Jesus fall upon me today. I need the Spirit of might to pray effectively; avoid works of sins and works of wonders as well as persevering in facing the hardship of Christianity. I pray in Jesus name.
