VANDAL CRUSHED TO DEATH UNDER COLLAPSED VANDALISED 330kV TRANSMISSION TOWER IN DELTA STATE

A suspected vandal was crushed to death after a vandalised 330kV transmission tower collapsed along the Ughelli–Benin transmission line in Delta State, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2026, after the affected transmission line tripped on an earth fault, prompting an intensive patrol by TCN’s Delta Sub-Region Lines Maintenance Department.
In a statement issued by the Management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on August 8, 2026, the company said its linesmen discovered the body of the suspected vandal beneath the collapsed tower during the fault-tracing operation.

According to TCN, the patrol team traced the fault to Tower 101, which had collapsed following extensive vandalisation.
The body of the suspected vandal was reportedly found trapped and crushed between members of the fallen transmission tower.

The company said further inspection of the area revealed that Tower 101 on the adjacent Ughelli–Sapele 330kV transmission line had also been seriously vandalised.
Unlike the Ughelli–Benin tower, however, the Ughelli–Sapele tower remained standing as of the time of the report.
TCN warns of deadly consequences of vandalism
TCN condemned the vandalisation of the transmission infrastructure, warning that tampering with high-voltage electricity facilities poses severe risks not only to national power infrastructure but also to human lives.
The company stressed that the latest incident underscored the potentially fatal consequences of dismantling or interfering with transmission towers and other electricity installations.
“This incident is a tragic reminder of the extreme dangers of tampering with power infrastructure. Vandalism not only leads to power outages and damage to national assets, it also endangers lives,” the company said.
TCN appealed to host communities and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
The company also called for collective action against the growing threat to transmission infrastructure, stressing that protecting electricity assets should be regarded as a civic responsibility.
“The fight against the vandalism of power infrastructure is one that must be inclusive. All hands must be on deck for this fight to be won,” TCN stated.
The company urged Nigerians to work with relevant authorities to prevent further attacks on transmission facilities, warning that continued vandalism could undermine efforts to provide stable electricity nationwide.
“Protecting power infrastructure is a civic responsibility. Stop the vandals, or they will stop power for us all,” TCN warned.
