ALGON Shake-Up: Sunny Oche Emerges Benue Treasurer as Shaku Takes Chairmanship

The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Engr. Sunny Oche, has emerged the new substantive Treasurer of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State Chapter, in a leadership reshuffle that also produced new chairman and welfare officer for the association.
The development was contained in a statement signed by Rotr. Innocent Igelle, cLMiH, mPPSN, MCAI, Principal Private Secretary to the Chairman, on August 14, 2026.
Oche was elected Treasurer at an emergency meeting of ALGON Benue held at ALGON House, Makurdi, following the resignation of the association’s former Chairman, Rt. Hon. Vitalis Terhile Neji, and Treasurer, Hon. Adole Gabriel Adole.
The meeting also elected Hon. Dr Justine Shaku as the new Chairman, while Hon. Moses Terfa, Chairman of Konshisha Local Government Council, emerged Welfare Officer.
The three elections were conducted to fill the vacancies created by the resignations and subsequent changes in the association’s leadership.
The emergency meeting was presided over by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Ambassador Melvin James Ejeh, Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council.
Ejeh said the resignations of the former officers were formally accepted, while their contributions to the association were acknowledged and appreciated.
He added that the elections were conducted freely, fairly and transparently, without interference, intimidation or coercion, with the newly elected officers directed to assume their respective duties immediately.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Hon. Dr Justine Shaku, described his emergence as a fresh call to duty, pledging to lead the association on the principles of fairness, transparency and teamwork.
Shaku promised to deploy his experience to the new assignment and expressed his support for the administration of Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, while seeking the cooperation of the immediate past leadership.
The emergence of Oche as Treasurer, meanwhile, was described as recognition of his leadership qualities, accountability, dedication and teamwork in the administration of Ado Local Government.
His new responsibility is expected to give him a broader platform to contribute to the coordination and strengthening of grassroots administration across Benue State.
Oche pledges accountability
Reacting to his election, Oche thanked his fellow council chairmen for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify their trust through transparent and accountable leadership.
He promised to discharge his responsibilities with “transparency, accountability and integrity,” while assuring the new ALGON leadership and his colleagues of his readiness to work harmoniously with them.
Oche said his priority would be to advance the interests of local governments and contribute to improved service delivery for residents across the state.
The new ALGON leadership is expected to strengthen collaboration among the 23 local government councils in Benue and deepen the association’s engagement on issues affecting grassroots governance and development.
