RHI Empowers 1,638 Families of Fallen Police Officers as IGP Disu Hails Tinubu, First Lady

The families of 1,638 police officers who died in the line of duty have received financial empowerment packages under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme, in a fresh Federal Government intervention aimed at helping dependants of fallen security personnel rebuild their livelihoods.
The presentation, organised by the Office of the First Lady of Nigeria through the RHI, was held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in attendance.
The second edition of the initiative targeted families of security personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force who lost their lives in the line of duty since the inception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The event was attended by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON; Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; Wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; Service Chiefs; the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA); and wives of heads of security agencies, among other dignitaries.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, IGP Disu expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the First Lady for the intervention, describing the gesture as a demonstration of national gratitude and compassion towards families whose loved ones paid the ultimate price in service to the country.
The Inspector-General said the support would provide some relief to families facing the consequences of losing their breadwinners while also reinforcing the nation’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel and their dependants.
“The Renewed Hope Initiative goes beyond just policy; it is about restoring dignity and standing with our citizens at their most vulnerable moments,” Disu said.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the IGP assured the families of fallen officers that the sacrifices of their loved ones would remain remembered, stressing that their service and ultimate sacrifice continued to contribute to the security and stability of the country.
He commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for extending its social investment intervention to families of deceased security personnel, saying the gesture demonstrated that the nation valued the sacrifices made by its officers and soldiers.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising the welfare of serving personnel and ensuring continued support for families of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The initiative, according to the police, represents part of broader efforts to provide assistance to vulnerable families of security personnel while honouring the memory and sacrifices of those who died serving Nigeria.
