NASENI Takes Clean Energy, Skills Empowerment to Lagos, Reaches 1,000 Residents

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has empowered 1,000 residents of Lagos State with clean-energy technologies, livelihood support and practical skills as part of its drive to translate science, technology and engineering into tangible economic opportunities for Nigerians.
A statement issued by the Director of Information, NASENI, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, on August 29, 2026, said the intervention was delivered under the Agency’s Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP), which seeks to deploy practical technologies and skills to households, businesses and communities across the country.
The Lagos edition of the programme, held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the LTV Blue Roof, Ikeja, featured the distribution of 400 NASENI Power Stoves, 100 NASENI Home Solar Solutions and NASENI Support Packs, alongside practical skills training in Plaster of Paris (POP) installation and electrical maintenance.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the intervention demonstrated the Agency’s determination to take science and technology beyond laboratories and into communities where they can directly improve livelihoods.
“Yesterday, we were in Ohafia, Abia State, delivering the same message through action. Today, we are here in Lagos. For us at NASENI, science, technology and engineering must ultimately improve lives. Innovation only becomes meaningful when it solves real problems for real people,” Halilu said.
According to him, the Lagos intervention came barely a day after NASENI implemented a similar empowerment programme in Ohafia, Abia State, reflecting the Agency’s expanding effort to reach beneficiaries in different parts of the country.
Halilu explained that the NASENI Power Stoves were designed to provide cleaner and more efficient cooking alternatives, thereby reducing dependence on traditional cooking methods and supporting Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.
He added that the NASENI Home Solar Solutions were intended to provide households and small businesses with reliable renewable energy options capable of extending productive hours and supporting economic activities.
The NASENI chief executive said the Lagos programme was deliberately structured to go beyond the distribution of empowerment items by incorporating practical and market-relevant skills training.
“These are practical skills with immediate economic value. The objective is not simply to train people, but to give them skills they can convert into services, businesses and sustainable sources of income,” he said.
Halilu said the Agency wanted beneficiaries to move from acquiring knowledge to generating income and from receiving government support to becoming productive participants in the economy.
“We want beneficiaries to move from learning to earning, and from receiving support to becoming productive economic participants,” he added.
He urged the beneficiaries to treat the intervention as an investment in their productive capacity and make effective use of the technologies and skills provided.
“Our real measure of success is what happens after today. Are households benefiting? Are people reducing their energy challenges? Are those trained earning from their new skills? Are small businesses being created or expanded? Those are the outcomes that matter to us,” Halilu said.
Representing the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, at the event, Hon. Fuad Kayode Laguda, Member representing Surulere I Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, commended NASENI for extending the programme to Lagos.
Laguda described the combination of practical skills development and empowerment products as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to translating policies and programmes into tangible opportunities for Nigerians.
He urged NASENI to expand the initiative to cover more communities and beneficiaries across Lagos State.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Chief Idris Ibikunle Olorunnimbe, represented by the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Akeem Dauda, commended NASENI for the intervention, particularly its emphasis on clean energy, skills development and sustainable livelihoods.
Dauda expressed appreciation to NASENI for bringing the programme to Lagos and urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunities provided to improve their livelihoods.
Similarly, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, represented by the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Hon. Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, described the programme as a practical demonstration of government interventions reaching ordinary citizens.
The NSEP initiative is designed to provide Nigerians with practical technologies, relevant skills and livelihood support, while demonstrating how science, technology and engineering can be deployed to create jobs, expand enterprise, promote cleaner energy, improve productivity and strengthen household incomes.
The Lagos intervention further underscores NASENI’s strategy of moving from research and technology development to practical solutions capable of delivering measurable socioeconomic benefits to Nigerians.
