The Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, arguing that continuity in leadership would sustain infrastructure development, consolidate economic reforms and advance national prosperity.

The Federal Ministry of Works disclosed this in a press release dated October 21, 2026, and signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed A. Ahmed. According to the statement, Umahi made the appeal on Tuesday, October 20, during a town hall meeting at the Coronation Hall in Kano State, ahead of the commissioning of major road projects in the state.

The minister said the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure investments and economic policies deserved recognition, describing the removal of petroleum subsidies and other reforms as difficult but necessary measures to reposition the Nigerian economy for sustainable growth.

“The worst is over. The darkest part of the morning is the dawn. We are moving into prosperity as a result of the hard decisions occasioned by the reforms,” Umahi said, urging Nigerians to remain patient and support the administration’s policies.

He maintained that the benefits of the reforms were increasingly reflected in infrastructure projects and other development initiatives across the country, adding that continuity in government would help preserve and build on the progress being made.

Umahi also called on the people of Kano State to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term, commending his leadership, inclusiveness and efforts to promote peace, unity and development.

The minister praised Kano’s environmental sanitation, describing the state’s cleanliness as an example of responsible governance and effective public resource management.

“I am yet to see another State that is beating Kano in cleanliness. In all the streets we passed through, you could pick a pin,” he said.

He further applauded Governor Yusuf for bringing together political leaders, a former governor, prominent indigenes and other stakeholders, describing the approach as evidence of mutual respect and a commitment to the collective progress of the state.

The Works Minister also advocated greater opportunities for engineers to occupy leadership positions, arguing that their technical expertise, professional training and problem-solving abilities could strengthen governance and improve infrastructure delivery.

Addressing concerns about the political disposition of the South-East towards the Tinubu administration, Umahi reaffirmed the zone’s commitment to national unity and dismissed the perception that it was opposed to the President.

In his welcome remarks, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its infrastructure interventions, particularly road projects expected to improve transportation, economic activity and connectivity across Kano State and the wider North-West region.

The governor highlighted the scheduled commissioning of outstanding works on the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, Section I, Lot 1, covering the Zaria–Kano stretch, as an important milestone in the country’s infrastructure development. He thanked President Tinubu for the projects and other support extended to the state, expressing optimism about the commissioning ceremony.

The Federal Ministry of Works reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable, safe and quality road infrastructure across the country under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
