The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across the country under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund, in a fresh intervention aimed at tackling infrastructure deficits and improving teaching and learning facilities.
The Federal Ministry of Finance disclosed this in a press release dated October 25, 2026, signed by its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie, stating that the funds would support approved projects in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education nationwide.
The disbursement covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education, with universities receiving the largest share of the intervention.
According to the ministry, ₦28.5 billion has been allocated to the 79 universities, while 46 polytechnics will receive a total of ₦5.8 billion. The 41 colleges of education have been allocated ₦4.7 billion.
The ministry explained that the intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the needs of public tertiary institutions and support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
It said the funds were expected to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or advance approved projects targeting critical infrastructure gaps and other identified institutional needs.
The ministry added that the overall objective was to strengthen the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria, with the disbursement highlighting the importance of effective coordination among the Federal Ministries of Finance and Education and the beneficiary institutions.
It stressed that approved public funding must translate into tangible improvements in educational infrastructure and institutional capacity, ensuring that the intervention delivers measurable benefits to students, lecturers and the wider academic community.
