Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has expressed deep condolences to the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over the death of her mother, Professor Kamene Okonjo, who died at the age of 96.
In a condolence message issued by his Media Adviser, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, Moro described the deceased as an exceptional scholar and matriarch whose life was defined by academic excellence, exemplary motherhood and an enduring legacy.
The senator, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, said the late Professor Okonjo distinguished herself in her academic career, raised accomplished children and lived a fulfilled life before passing away peacefully at the age of 96.
He noted that her legacy was evident in the remarkable achievements of her children, particularly Dr Okonjo-Iweala, who heads the WTO, and the traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Obi (Dr.) Ifechukwude Anishi Okonjo II.
Moro described the late scholar as a woman whose life and accomplishments offered an enduring example for others to emulate, noting that her contributions to her family and society would remain significant.
The Senate Minority Leader also expressed solidarity with the family of the late Professor Obi Chukwuka Okonjo and the entire Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom over the loss.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant Okonjo-Iweala and other members of the family the strength and fortitude to bear what he described as an irreplaceable loss.
Professor Kamene Okonjo’s death marks the loss of a respected academic and family matriarch whose legacy, according to Moro, lives on through the achievements of her children and the values she instilled in them.
