The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged Nigerians living in France to remain calm, avoid confrontation and respect the country’s laws amid concerns affecting their communities.

The Commission made the appeal in a press statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and signed by its Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on behalf of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Dabiri-Erewa called on Nigerians in France to exercise restraint, maintain public order and cooperate peacefully with lawful instructions from French authorities, warning against actions that could escalate tensions or undermine their safety.

She specifically advised Nigerians to avoid “confrontation, violence and provocation” and to conduct themselves responsibly while respecting their neighbours and other communities, irrespective of nationality, religion or background.

The NiDCOM boss also cautioned against spreading rumours and unverified information, particularly on social media, urging Nigerians to rely on credible sources and follow verified safety guidance.

Emphasising the importance of responsible conduct abroad, Dabiri-Erewa said Nigerians in the Diaspora were ambassadors of their country and had a shared responsibility to protect Nigeria’s image while respecting the laws and institutions of their host nations.

She further advised anyone whose safety or rights might be at risk to seek appropriate legal assistance and contact relevant emergency or consular services.
