The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms are positioning Nigeria for sustainable growth, insisting that the administration’s $1 trillion economy target is within reach.

Yilwatda stated this in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while addressing supporters at a rally attended by President Tinubu and his entourage at the Senator Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, according to a statement issued on November 6, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki.

The APC chairman said the reforms had received recognition from major international economic institutions, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), describing Tinubu’s resolve to tackle longstanding structural challenges as a demonstration of courageous leadership.

While acknowledging that the reforms had brought difficult adjustments, Yilwatda warned against abandoning the process, arguing that doing so could reverse the country’s progress and return it to the economic challenges that necessitated the policies.

He described the $1 trillion economy ambition as “more than a political aspiration,” saying it was a strategic national development target backed by deliberate policy choices and ongoing economic restructuring.

Yilwatda identified investments in infrastructure, transportation, education, maritime development and financial inclusion as key pillars of the administration’s economic transformation agenda.

He particularly cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a landmark project expected to improve connectivity, stimulate commerce and unlock economic opportunities for Akwa Ibom and other coastal communities. He also said the development of Nigeria’s maritime economy would enhance the competitiveness of coastal states.

On education and social investment, the APC chairman commended the student loan initiative for expanding access to higher education, while noting that targeted support for women and small businesses was promoting wider economic participation.

He further said the tax reforms were designed to reduce the burden on low-income earners and small businesses, allowing them to retain more earnings and operate in a more supportive business environment.

Yilwatda also highlighted improved industrial harmony in educational institutions and efforts to settle outstanding obligations to workers, pensioners and retirees of formerly privatised public enterprises as significant milestones.

Urging Nigerians to support the reform agenda, he declared: “Never again should Nigeria return to Egypt. We cannot afford to abandon the difficult but necessary work of rebuilding our economy and repositioning our country for sustainable growth.”

He maintained that the administration’s policies and investments were laying the foundation for long-term prosperity and a more economically competitive Nigeria.
