DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: August 12 Topic: ANGELIC VISITATION TO MOSES. Scriptures: Exod. 3: 1-14; 4:1-4.
Moses spent 40 years in exile, God did not forget him. At age 80, He called him at the burning bush to deliver the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt. It was a holy moment, God revealed his mission, this is indeed good news. God revealed that He wants to send Moses to implement and share in his deliverance. Moses gave excuses, he contended that he could not possibly be the right person. Many times as Christians, we give similar excuses before God; believing that the Almighty has somehow got it wrong.
For the period of 40 years, Moses could get up every morning and walking with a staff as he shepherds the sheep under his care. God asked Moses a very important question; ‘what is in your hand’? The staff is a symbol of his gifts, his skills, his occupation, how he spent his time. It is in another sense, a symbol of what Moses can do, and what he can uniquely offer. God told him to hand over the staff to Him, surrender it by casting it on the ground in front of the burning bush. While on the ground (in the hands of God) it turns into a snake. God instructed Moses to pick up the snake by the tail, and it returned to the very staff Moses has been using.
What we can learn from this scenario is that, God still invite the ordinary people of the world to surrender who they are and what they can do to Him. For us to answer the call of God upon our lives, we must be available. If you can make available what is in your hands to God, it will amaze you what He can do with it. The staff in Moses hands gave him boldness to walk in the presence of Pharaoh and said, “let my people go!” The staff parted the Red Sea. Along the way to the Promise Land; he struck the rock with the staff and water came out from it. When you surrender who you are, what you’ve got, and what you can do to God; you will have no idea or control over what God might do with it.
The outstanding experience of Moses life took place on the mount of God. He hid himself from human companionship, and interceded for the children of Israel who through the act of idolatry jeopardize their existence as a nation. God not only accepted Moses’ intercession, but granted him a rare privilege. He was permitted to see God’s form and glory from a hidden place in a rock (Exod. 33: 11 – 23).
Beloved; what would it look like if you put what is in your hands and make it available to God? Sometimes it might involve working a longer time than we ever imagined. But it will surely come through for you to the glory of God. Are you ready to respond to the call and take up the invitation to an adventure with God? Think about it.
Prayer points:
• Lord Almighty, reveal to me my mission on earth, and help me never to argue with you; but to surrender to your will.
• Moses was in exile for 40 years, you did not forget him, at age 80 you visited him. Father, God, I know you will not forget me. Visit me and change my story.
Confession:
Whatever that is in my hands, I put them back into your hands oh God to do whatever you deemed fit with it.
