DAILY HOPE DEVOTIONAL: NOVEMBER 27 WISDOM OF BOASTING IN THE LORD (1) SCRIPTURE: PSALM 34: 2; ISAIAH 48: 17; JEREMIAH 9: 24
Within the two days past, we were being told about how many people boast, brag arrogantly of who they are, what they have and what they can do without thinking about God, who enables people achieve things. Boasting and bragging in selves’ abilities is mere foolishness. One Bishop Freedom Echo, while commenting on yesterday’s devotional said something outstanding. He said “We must be mindful in bragging because the Creator of all things and the giver of the gifts can collect back His blessings, when and however He wants it.” Very powerful! God Himself spoke through His Prophet, Jeremiah that “But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone; that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love, and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things…” (Jer. 9: 24 Africa Study Bible). The scripture is explicit here. Anyone who should boast or brag, should do that crediting all things to God who demonstrate those feat through him or her.
We are living in a world that many Christians and people are using Psalm 34: 2 which says: “I will boast only in the LORD…”out of context. Many are now using the context of boasting about worldly possessions or of speaking a miracle into existence. The idea is that, if you have a material need, then you should “boast” that you already have that need met. Such boasting is a proof of faith (so they say), and that, faith will glorify God as your “word of confession” speaks a blessing into existence. This is most decidedly not what David meant. The context concerns God’s ability to glorify Himself even in our strength and weakness. True boasting in the Lord is actually boasting of His great attributes, boasting of what He has done for us, of what He is still doing and of what He has promised to do for us in the nearest future. Here are reasons that boasting in the LORD for all we are is wisdom. We must know that the Bible takes all who think there is no God as fools.
The Bible says “The fool says in his heart that there is no God…” (Psa. 14: 1). That you are leading all your mates in politics does not mean you are the most intelligent. That your businesses are thriving does not mean you have all the wisdom and skills to make gains. It is God who teaches the hands to make profits (Isa. 48: 17). Giving the credits of all we have and all our successes to God means we recognize His Supremacy and Sovereignty over our lives and possessions. This means we are not proud. The Bible says in Psalm 101: 5 “The man of haughty looks and arrogant heart I will not endure.” Also, the Bible says in Proverbs 16: 5 that “Everyone who is arrogant is an abomination to the Lord.” Let us all be wise to boast in the LORD for all we are. This devotional feels to tell Christians not to be like the worldly people in boasting and bragging in selves.
PRAYER:
GRACIOUS FATHER, I plead for your mercy today for gift of knowing you are behind all I do and achieve in life. There is nothing in me to boast or brag of anything. Take all the glory of all I am in Jesus name.
